Measuring the Value of Library Services

March 11, 2015

Recently our library was asked to look at library services and their impact (value) on the department.  While over the years we have collected data on a number of  services delivered (e.g. reference requests answered, training sessions held, etc.) we cannot say how these services have impacted law department staff.  Did the service delivered help the lawyer win his/her case, the support person get her brief filed on time, was the lawyer better prepared for court/hearing or did the library service help their client? We have anecdotal evidence that the library does indeed have this  type of impact (value), but no real way to measure it.

Any suggestions?

How did I not know that?!

Episode 3: “In Council”

By calling the office of the Lieutenant Governor, one of my wonderful colleagues in Edmonton shared with me a very interesting factoid worth blogging about.

It’s familiar to many of us that the coming into force of some statutory amendments happen by way of Order-in-Council. Here’s an example. What I didn’t know, is that the Lieutenant Governor in Council refers to the “Minister of the Day” not the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta.

Mark your calendars
