Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP, one of Canada’s leading law firms, has an opening for an experienced professional to join the Library & Information Services Department in the Calgary office as a Library Coordinator.  Under the general oversight of the Director, Professional Development, and working collaboratively with the Library personnel, the Library Coordinator supports or directly provides the various services offered by the Library & Information Services team.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal reference and research services for lawyers and students
  • Perform media and current awareness monitoring using a variety of tools, curate results and communicate results to lawyers
  • Track and circulate various updates, newsletters and similar materials
  • Support intra-firm communication and knowledge sharing initiatives through Firm intranet including collecting, publishing and maintaining content
  • Catalogue legal materials using Sydney Enterprise and maintain library collection including loose-leaf filing
  • Participate in collection development
  • Facilitate locating research resources from outside of our collection
  • Oversee library circulation
  • Library administrative responsibilities and other duties as required

Education, Experience & Skills:

  • Formal library education or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Two or more years recent experience providing research and reference assistance in a law firm library
  • Experience with a wide variety of Canadian and International legal research resources, both print and online, including WestlawNext Canada, Westlaw US & International, Proview, LexisNexis, Quicklaw, Heinonline, CanLII and vLex Canada
  • Proficient in case law, legislation and secondary source research from a variety of sources as well as some experience with non-legal research
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to juggle competing demands and work under pressure
  • Focus on client service
  • Strong work ethic and demonstrated reliability
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Exhibited attention to detail
  • Skilled in time management and problem solving
