To continue providing first-rate service, we are looking for a Research and Knowledge Management Specialist to join our fast-paced team.

Position:
Research and Knowledge Management Specialist (Full-Time)

Reports To:
Director, Information Management

Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the general supervision of the Director, Information Management the role provides support to the various areas of the Library including research and knowledge gathering. The position is responsible for research assistance, exploring the use of evolving technologies in the delivery and maintenance of information for new and continued business development to support the Firm.

In accordance with the Management Policies of Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer LLP, the Research and Knowledge Management Specialist has the responsibility to complete the following duties:

  • Conduct research using commercial databases and research applications to provide in-depth legal and business research to support lawyers, students and staff
  • Perform current awareness monitoring, analyzing the results and provide information to lawyers
  • Actively participate in the planning, and delivery of training in research methods and resources for students and lawyers including guidance on the use of the firm's internal and external knowledge resources
  • Explore and evaluate new technologies and information resources identifying and communicating key opportunities and issues for the Firm's strategic initiatives
  • Deliver and support data governance practices and processes for the firm's CRM application
  • Other duties as required

Education & Qualifications:

  • Experience and/or education in a related field (Library and Information Science or Knowledge and Information Management,) or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2-3 years of experience providing research and reference in a law firm or corporate environment. Law firm experience is strongly preferred
  • Experience in administrating customer or similar databases an asset
  • Intermediate to advanced research skills
  • Experience in supporting users with technology systems.

  • Ability to prepare reports, executive summaries, and other correspondence necessary to communicate research results to all levels of management
  • Proficiency with legal titles, legal research resources, library technologies, including software and products used for communication, research and knowledge sharing
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail, excellent problem-solving and communication skills, as well as a strong client focus
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and a customer-service orientation are essential
  • Understanding of Library Science and/or Knowledge Management principles, practices, procedures and trends
