    Some Highlights from the Vendor’s Forum

    October 29, 2013 

    If you were unable  to attend  the  CLLG Vendor’s Forum held on October 28, 2013,  here are some highlights from this event.

    LexisNexis (Online) and LexisNexis (Print)

    LexisNexis Online announced the release of Practical  Advisor Canada, an online tool for the transactional lawyer.  Currently the only practice area covered is Insolvency & Restructuring but Intellectual Property will be available soon.  On the print side,  Arthur Vaz announced new titles and some specials  currently on including the opportunity to update cancelled  looseleaf titles at 40% off.

    Alberta Queen’s Printer

    Alberta Queen’s Printer announced that a new website is coming and that QPSource would be getting a new software update.  They are looking for power users to test the new QPSource platform.   If you would like to be a beta tester, contact  The Queen’s Printer is  trying to obtain the rights to distribute the Alberta Building Code & Fire Code  from the Feds.   They also  spoke about the new Public Registry of Proposed Regulations.


    Carswell announced that they would be rolling out the new WestlawNext Canada  to subscribers in waves starting in 2014.  WestlawNext will have a “google” type interface with “one search” but will maintain an “advanced search” for more sophisticated users.  New tools will help users share and organize research they have found.   New titles continue to be added to the eReference Library and there is currently a treatise sale at 35% off.

    S & P Capital IQ for Law Professionals

    New to the CLLG Vendors Forum, S & P  provides real time market data, research and analytics.

    I want to thank the Program Committee and the vendors for putting on  this event.  I always find it relevant and informative.

    It’s Time to Renew Your CLLG Membership

    Yes, it’s time to renew your CLLG Membership for the 2013-2014 season.   It’s easy! Just click  ‘Join CLLG’  on our website and select ‘Membership Application Form‘.  When renewing your membership, please  check to see that your information in the current directory is correct.  New members are welcomed at any time.

    Changes at CanLII

    September 4, 2013 

    Note that as of  September 17, 2013, the “beta” interface at CanLII becomes the new  search CanLII interface.

    Federal Publications Goes Bust!

    Annamarie Bergen, Legal Information Specialist at Osler, informs us that  Federal Publications Inc.  filed for bankruptcy on July 31, 2013.  According to Annamarie,  “if  you subscribed to receive the Supreme Court Reports,  Federal Courts Reports, bound Canada Statutes, Gazettes etc. which Federal Publications sold, you may receive a letter from Zeifman Partners Inc. who is the Trustee in Bankruptcy for Federal Publications demanding payment for any amounts owing”.

    Yes, it’s true.  We have launched the new, revised website with a new theme and using WordPress. Please be patient, it is a living document and we plan to add new content and features as we move along.  Please send us any comments, corrections and/or changes.  Oh yeah, we do accept praise!
